Give each project a home.
Separate what came from the camera from what you create in the edit.

readme.txtThis example uses a date and a short descriptive project name. Keep camera files in their original directory structure when the recording format depends on sidecar files or multiple linked parts.
Write a note while you remember
A plain-text readme can record the filming date, location, recording settings and the name of the editing application. Include anything another person would need to understand the folder without opening your project.
Make the final export obvious
Use descriptive export names that include purpose and version, such as city-walk_web_v02.mp4. Keep intermediate renders separate from the version you intend to share. Avoid a chain of files named “final-final”.
Before renaming originals: make a separate copy and check whether the editing project links to their current paths.
